The leadership of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema Central Constituency has called for calm and unity amid rising tensions over the appointment of a new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly by President John Dramani Mahama.
This appeal follows a protest on Sunday, April 13, 2025, where scores of youth took to the streets outside the assembly, demanding that the president nominated a local resident as the next Mayor of Tema.
The demonstrators, visibly agitated, set car tyres ablaze and beat drums in a show of defiance, expressing concerns that a non-local candidate, Ebi Bright, is being considered for the role.
Many of the protesters voiced their support instead for Patience Ankamah Addo, who is perceived as a homegrown frontrunner for the position.
