Some section of employees will have to lose their jobs as the government of Ghana has refused to renew the mining lease of Damang for Goldfields.
An internal memo, which has since gone viral on the internet, said efforts are underway to ensure the government changes its position.
However, in the interim, Goldfields has told its workers that they must begin preparing to comply with the expiry of the mining lease.
The company understands that the news comes as a shock; however, a management committee has been put in place to assess the pathway towards resolution and evaluate the possible impacts on their employees.
