The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has clarified recent comments he made about recruiting youth from Bawku into the , emphasising that his remarks were not meant to suggest preferential treatment or disregard for recruitment guidelines.

Speaking during a visit to the area on Friday, April 11, 2025, the IGP explained that his intentions were to encourage the youth to shun violence. "During the meeting we had with the Bawku Naba, the chiefs, and the people, including the youth of Bawku, we assured them that if they are able to lay down their weapons, they will be given the opportunity to participate in the recruitment process.

This will be done through the normal procedures," he stated. "But it seems the media is publishing something quite different.

Recruitment will still follow the normal process.
