The Minister of Health, , has urged authorities at Ridge Hospital to maintain and replace obsolete medical equipment, emphasising that they charge fees for the services they provide.
The minister expressed serious concern about the deteriorating state of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital, following an unannounced inspection on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Addressing the management of medical equipment, Akandoh pointed out the contradiction in hospitals charging patients for services while still expecting the government to maintain or replace aging equipment. "Hospitals run this equipment at a fee, yet when the equipment becomes obsolete, they expect the government to maintain or replace it," he said.
The inspection uncovered troubling conditions at the facility, especially in the emergency unit.
