The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Awatey, has reportedly ordered the suspension of construction works on a China Mall project in Koforidua following mounting complaints from residents about severe flooding in their homes.
The decision comes after several residents living close to the construction site raised alarms over the diversion of natural waterways by the developers, which they say has led to frequent flooding, especially during heavy rains.
According to the residents, what were once clear water channels have been blocked or redirected, causing water to flow directly into their homes and creating a public nuisance.
Concerns have been growing in the community as many fear their properties and livelihoods are at risk if construction continues without addressing the water management issues.
