Ghanaian gospel group Alabaster Box is considering legal action against rapper Medikal over what they describe as unauthorized use of their intellectual property. The group has accused the award-winning artiste of sampling elements from their popular track "Akwaaba" in his recently released song, "Welcome to Africa."In a statement issued by their legal counsel, Sustineri Attorneys, Alabaster Box claims that the opening portions of Medikal's song closely mirror their original composition, suggesting a case of copyright infringement.
They argue that this resemblance constitutes a derivative work created without their permission-an act that infringes upon their exclusive rights as the original creators.
The group further asserts that Medikal's familiarity with their music over the years strengthens the case for intentional infringement.
According to them, the song has already gained traction on several platforms, including Medikal's verified YouTube page, where it has surpassed 72,000 views.
