The High Court has acquitted and discharged the Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, bringing an end to a protracted legal battle over allegations of dual citizenship.
The ruling, delivered on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, clears Quayson of all criminal charges related to claims that he held Canadian citizenship at the time of filing to contest the 2020 parliamentary elections.
The prosecution had argued that this violated Ghana's Constitution.
Quayson, who has consistently denied the allegations, maintained that he renounced his Canadian citizenship before filing his nomination forms.
