Madam Eunice Teah Dzagli, Health Promotion Officer at the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate (GARHD), has cautioned against using mosquito nets as trap doors or window screens, stating that such practices render the nets ineffective.
She explained that nets exposed to sunlight lose their efficacy within three days, and although Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Nets (LLINs) can last up to three years if kept indoors and unwashed, they become less effective after about 20 washes.
Speaking at a planning meeting for the upcoming LLIN mass distribution in Accra, Madam Dzagli emphasised the correct use of nets in the fight against malaria and urged the public to follow proper guidelines.
Madam Evelyn Tabi, Deputy Director of Nursing Services at GARHD, announced that from April 9 to 13, 2025, the region will undertake a mass registration exercise for households across all 29 districts.
