The US Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, has acknowledged the role of Ghana in the promotion of stability and democracy in West Africa, particularly amidst growing security concerns due to violent extremism in its sub-regions.
She said the important role of Ghana in peacekeeping and regional security cannot be downplayed, while stressing on democratic transition of power and its support to weaker neighboring countries to countering attacks from terrorists.
Speaking at the opening of the 13th African Land Forces Summit in Accra, Palmer spoke on the need to critically adapt and strengthen the armed forces to be able to confront evolving threats that undermine and destabilise countries.
She said "It is critically important that we adapt and strengthen our armed forces to confront the evolving threats that seek to undermine and destabilise our countries and regions.
