The 2025 Africa Land Forces Summit kicked off in Accra on Monday, 7 April, drawing military leaders from over 50 countries to address growing security concerns such as cyber threats, violent extremism, and border security.
Ghana's Defence Minister, Edward Omane Boamah, representing President John Dramani Mahama at the opening ceremony, highlighted the urgency of collective action in the face of evolving global threats. "This platform offers our land forces and international partners a unique opportunity to develop unified responses to modern-day security challenges," he stated, emphasizing the need for intelligence sharing, joint planning, and strong counter-intelligence efforts.
The summit, one of the largest military gatherings on the continent, includes participants from more than 40 African nations, alongside delegations from the United States and Europe.
