A concerned women's group in the Central Region, comprising queen mothers and prominent female voices, has issued a strong appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to immediately halt the ongoing process aimed at the removal of the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.
At a press conference held in Cape Coast, the group expressed deep disappointment over the development and called on the Council of State to intervene and bring an end to what they described as a worrying situation.
They urged President Mahama to reconsider the move, especially in light of his administration's historic achievement of appointing the country's first female Vice President. "It was a most welcome news that for the first time in our history as a country, we went to the polls and cast our ballots to have a woman and indeed a noble one at that, occupy the second highest office of the land," the group stated.
Reading a statement on behalf of the Concerned Women's Group, Miss Vivian Gassor urged all women and advocacy groups across the country to rise and be counted during what she called a "creeping cloud of darkness." "We are by this communique calling on all Ghanaians to join in our call to halt this process which is definitely not in the interest of mother Ghana," she added.
