In a bold move to ensure transparency and integrity within the Tema Development Company Limited (TDC), Managing Director Courage Kafui Nunekpeku has requested the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate some irregularities within the company.
During a staff durbar held last week, Nunekpeku shared his concerns about the operations at TDC, which he said were "mind-blowing" to him, especially after coming from the private sector. "In the few weeks I've been in office, some of the things I have seen will blow your mind," he said, emphasizing the importance of scrutiny and accountability in the public sector.
Nunekpeku went on to explain that one of the key issues he discovered was related to the IT department, where a contract worth one million dollars was awarded, but the company still lacks access to the software it was supposed to have. "This morning, I wrote two letters to EOCO to look into issues in the IT department," he revealed. "IT contracts were awarded for one million dollars, and we don't have access to the software.
So EOCO will intervene." In a strong statement, Nunekpeku also addressed the issue of wasteful spending, pointing to an instance where the company had considered buying a washing machine for GH¢15,000 and detergent for GH¢1,000 to clean curtains, something he felt could be done more efficiently internally. "Why not buy a washing machine for GH¢15,000 and detergent for GH¢1,000 to clean the curtains ourselves and reuse the machine?" he questioned.
