Private legal practitioner and social activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has announced that the #FixTheCountry movement will stage a protest against the government's poor handling of illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, in the country.
He stated that the demonstration, scheduled for May 1, 2025, will see concerned Ghanaians taking to the streets to express their displeasure with how the government is addressing the galamsey issue.
According to the activist, since President assumed office, he has not presented a clear roadmap to combat the menace, unlike the detailed plans laid out for other sectors during the 2024 election campaign. "It's been four months.
The level of seriousness the government has shown in other areas makes us believe that a clear strategy to tackle galamsey should have already been unveiled. "For us, the reason we're mobilising back to the streets is to remind the government that this is a serious and urgent issue," he told Joy FM on April 6, 2025.
