Sanarigu Member of Parliament, Issah Atta, has called for a thorough review of Ghana's procurement system following revelations about missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, April 5, Atta underscored the need to scrutinise the contracts behind such transactions to fully understand the issues at stake. "We need to do a lot as a country in finetuning our procurement process.

You will not appreciate these missing containers without understanding how these contracts were awarded," Atta stated.

Referencing findings from the ECG investigative committee report, he pointed to a troubling rise in single-source contracts over the years. "If you look at the report, this first of all-look at page 12-you see that in 2012 the total number of single-source [contracts was] 33 out of 142 contracts awarded.
