Legal practitioner and member of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for staying true to his campaign pledge to abolish the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy), calling the tax policy "theft on the people's money." Speaking during a panel discussion on Morning Starr, Jantuah did not hold back in his criticism of the E-Levy and the government that introduced it. "The e-levy was theft on the people's money and it's a good thing it went," he said, adding that the policy failed to deliver on the promises made when it was first introduced. "At the time, what did they tell us?

E-levy was the be-on to end-all of Ghana.

It was going to do so many things for Ghana, things that we couldn't do with tolls, so they scrapped tolls," Jantuah remarked. "They scrapped tolls and now look at the state of some of our roads." The legal practitioner argued that the decision to impose the E-Levy, despite significant public opposition, contributed to the electoral defeat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). "I will congratulate President Mahama for sticking to his promise because the e-levy was part and parcel of the NPP losing the election. "If they had listened at the time, if Ken Ofori-Atta had listened to the people at the time, they could have amended it in a way that could be accepted by the people."
