Details surrounding the tragic death of a Ghana Police Service officer in the line of duty have emerged, as the service has revealed the circumstances under which the officer lost his life.

The deceased, identified as Constable John Kwabena Dogbey, was part of the Central North Regional Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce stationed at Assin Domeabra to combat illegal mining activities in the area.

Tragically, on April 2, 2025, while attempting to dismantle mining equipment used by illegal miners, he slipped and fell into the Offin River, where the miners were operating, leading to his untimely death. "Preliminary investigations have revealed that the Constable, who was part of the Central North Regional Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce deployed for duty at Assin Domeabra, slipped and fell into the Offin River while dismantling a Chanfan machine belonging to the illegal miners," the police said in a statement released on Friday, April 4, 2025.

A statement from the police, signed by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Central North Region, ASP Francis Onyina, further indicated that efforts to rescue Constable Dogbey in the initial moments after he fell into the river were unsuccessful.
