Ghana is set to restrict the importation of excavators into the country, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has said.
Consequently, discussions are ongoing to fashion out the modalities of the restrictions of the importation of the excavators.
According to him, about $6.2 billion worth of excavators were imported into the country annually and most of them were deployed to engage in illegal mining.
Speaking at a news conference in Accra yesterday to update the public on efforts to combat illegal mining in the country, Mr Buah, said the move formed part of measures to combat illegal mining.
