Former Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Acheampong, has attributed the widespread public opposition to the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) to intense political polarisation at the time of its introduction.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Thursday, April 3, Acheampong noted that the E-Levy faced heavy criticism due to the politically charged atmosphere following the closely contested election between former President Akufo-Addo and the current administration.
While acknowledging the importance of revenue mobilisation for national development, Acheampong admitted that public perception and opposition undermined the levy's rollout. "The birth of E-Levy met a lot of opposition.
Four years back, we had just had a very heated election between the former president and the current president.
