In a striking concession, the Trump administration admitted on Monday that it had mistakenly deported Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father, to El Salvador due to an "administrative error," acknowledging that the federal government had violated a prior court order protecting him from removal.

This revelation marks the first time the administration has publicly acknowledged such a mistake in the contentious saga surrounding recent deportation flights to El Salvador, which have become the focal point of a legal dispute.

The case revolves around Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national who, in 2019, was granted protected status by an immigration judge, which explicitly prohibited his deportation to El Salvador.

Despite this ruling, on March 15, 2020, he was sent back to his home country.
