Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, has extended his heartfelt condolences following the tragic death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju.
The boxer passed away under unfortunate circumstances after his light-heavyweight bout against Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
In a press release dated March 31, 2025, Adams expressed deep empathy for Gabriel's family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Nigerian boxing community. "Gabriel, a promising athlete who displayed exceptional talent, passion, and courage in the ring, passed away under unfortunate circumstances," Adams noted.
He described Gabriel's passing as an irreplaceable loss to the boxing fraternity and a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of the sport.
