Member of Parliament Davis Ansah Opoku has set the record straight regarding the financial state of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), following recent allegations made by Communication Minister Samuel Nartey George.

In a Facebook post, Opoku emphasized that NITA's current debt of GHS 813,486,505.89 is a Government of Ghana liability rather than the agency's own.

He explained that this debt primarily stems from the deployment of the Smart Workplace system across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), covering software licenses, maintenance, and support services-financial obligations meant to be settled by the Ministry of Finance.

He further noted that other outstanding debts were either incurred before NITA's infrastructure was transferred to a private contractor or while providing essential ICT services to MDAs.
