Britannia Medical Centre (BMC), a non-profit hospital, located at Community 22, Tema in the Greater Accra Region, has marked its fifth anniversary with the unveiling of a cutting-edge emergency ward, reaffirming its commitment to providing accessible, compassionate and high-quality healthcare.

Since its establishment in 2020, BMC, with its vision to be one of the most respected private university teaching hospitals in Ghana, has remained dedicated to delivering compassionate medical services, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency.

During the unveiling ceremony on March 21, 2025, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Koby Appiah-Sakyi, emphasised the hospital's mission to bridge gaps in emergency care, especially within the Tema communities. "So, what we have done here is to develop an emergency unit which is up to standard, so that people in this community can access emergency services, if something happens to them, where they really need emergency care, so they don't have to travel a minimum of 10 to 200 miles to get healthcare... "We have in this some emergency services that allow us to be able to provide respiratory support if you get a cardiac arrest, if you get stroke, if you have a road traffic accident, you can get healthcare, which is quite up to standard because the standard of care here is comparable to what you get in a lot of western countries," he noted.

The emergency ward, fitted with advanced monitoring systems and rapid response tools, is expected to ease the burden on the hospital's existing infrastructure and enhance patient care.
