Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has strongly condemned Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and Minister of Agriculture, for his recent provocative comments at a rally in Nsawam. Bryan Acheamong speaking during a rally in Nsawam said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will use every means to win the 2024 general election and that those who don't understand could burn the sea. However, during an interview with Selorm Adonoo on The Point of View on Channel One TV, Ablakwa emphasised that such language is unacceptable from a high-ranking official like Acheampong, and urged restraint in political discourse. Additionally, Ablakwa described as "undemocratic" President Akufo-Addo's comments suggesting that he would not hand over power, further highlighting his concerns about the government's commitment to democratic principles.
"They are so hell-bent, President Akufo-Addo would consistently say that he's not going to hand over, very undemocratic statement. This is not a responsible thought, they can be couched in a manner if you say that you hope to win, but to say that you won't hand over and to have your Agric Minister say that no matter what happens, by hook or crook, they won't hand over, I mean, such very inflammatory, incendiary and unconstitutional language should not be coming from high office holders."
In 2021, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed his desire to hand over power to an NPP government in 2025 but noted that internal party actions leading up to the next election would determine whether that goal was achievable.
