Renowned legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has backed calls for the immediate transfer of police regional commanders in areas heavily affected by illegal small-scale mining (galamsey).

Speaking on the issue, he emphasised the need for firm action, stating, "Let us give the IGP all the support he deserves.

He should start with the transfers of the regional commanders in the galamsey areas." Kpebu further stressed that unless these commanders can demonstrate a commitment to arresting culprits, they should be reassigned. "I support the call for regional commanders in areas where galamsey activities are ongoing to be transferred immediately unless they are able to arrest culprits," he said.

Also on the same platform, the Convener of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Ken Ashigbey, urged the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to disclose the names of individuals who import excavators into Ghana.
