The Ghana Chamber of Mines has petitioned Parliament's Finance Committee to reconsider the proposed increase in the Growth and Sustainability Levy from 1% to 3%, as outlined in the 2025 Budget Statement.
As part of its advocacy efforts, the Chamber has engaged Finance Minister Dr.
Cassiel Ato Forson and members of the Finance Committee to discuss the potential implications of the levy hike on the mining industry.
Speaking to Citi Business News, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Sulemana Konney, expressed optimism that continued dialogue would help minimize any negative effects on the sector. "There would continue to be an opportunity for us as a mining industry to engage with the Ministry of Finance and the Minerals Commission as well as our sector ministry further backed by data so that the legislation will not have the kind of unintended consequences we have been voicing our concerns about.
