The Board Chairman of CUTS International, Justice Jones Dotse, has made a strong appeal to the government to prioritize the passage of the long-overdue Consumer Protection Law, emphasizing its urgency in safeguarding the rights of consumers in Ghana.
Speaking at the World Consumer Rights Day and launch of the State of the Ghanaian Consumer Report 2025, Justice Dotse underscored the critical need for a comprehensive legal framework that would not only protect consumers but also address regulatory loopholes and promote accountability among service providers. "It is our hope that the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Agribusiness sector, and the Government will heed this urgent call to pass the long-overdue Consumer Protection Law this year," he stated.
He lamented the absence of such legislation, describing it as a "glaring void" in Ghana's legal system that has left consumers vulnerable to exploitation.
According to him, without a unified consumer protection framework, businesses operate with minimal accountability, often to the detriment of the very people they are meant to serve.
