Muslim women have been admonished to wear the hijab as a mark of modesty and obedience to Allah.
According to the Ghana Air Force Imam, Flight Lieutenant Moucharoudine- Siddique Maiga, wearing a hijab did not only guard a woman's modesty and chastity, but also formed part of civilisation in every country.
Speaking to the Ghanaian Times in Accra, Flt Lt Maiga emphasised the importance of hijab in Islam, saying it served as a protection to one's modesty and chastity and it's expected of every woman to wear it.
However, he lamented the fact that many Muslim women in Ghana were still facing discrimination and humiliation for wearing the hijab. "I receive numerous complaints from different institutions where Muslim women are being denied their rights and subjected to ridicule just because they are wearing hijab," he said. "Sometimes, the authorities will pretend to listen to us, but in our absence, they subject our women to so much humiliation because they are wearing hijab", he added.
