The leadership of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have announced that public transport fares will remain unchanged, dismissing reports of a fare hike by some transport operators.

Following a meeting with the Minister for Transport on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, the unions concluded that there was no justification for an upward adjustment in fares, as the major cost components of their operations had not significantly increased. "We have agreed that there is no justification for an upward adjustment in public transport fares since the major cost component of our operations has not significantly increased at the moment.

We have, therefore, agreed to maintain the existing fares and allow the government to settle before any further negotiations," the unions stated.
