The Greater Accra President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Tsonam Akpeloo, has emphasised the need for a fair tax regime that supports local manufacturers.
According to him, the current tax structure unfairly burdens manufacturers by imposing taxes on essential raw materials while allowing finished products to enter the market with minimal or no taxation.
He argued that these policies stifle local production and job creation, ultimately undermining the government's economic objectives.
Speaking at the Oxfam Tax Dialogue on Channel One TV, Akpeloo underscored the disparities in the tax system, emphasizing their negative impact on the growth of local industries. "If the 24-Hour Economy is something they [the government] want to achieve, they have to actually separate taxes for manufacturers and also for importers and make sure that they have a special package for manufacturers.
