The Alliance of Drivers Ghana has announced a 20% increase in lorry fares, effective Monday, March 17, 2025.

The decision comes in response to rising fuel prices and the increasing cost of vehicle maintenance, including spare parts and engine oil, according to the Alliance of Drivers Ghana.

In a press statement issued on March 13, 2025, the association cited the surge in fuel prices from GH₵12.99 to GH₵16.23 per litre as a key factor behind the fare adjustment. "All indications show that fuel prices, spare parts, car prices, and engine oil prices continue to rise gradually," the statement noted.

The drivers emphasized that, as self-employed individuals, they receive no government support and must sustain their livelihoods through fare adjustments. "How can we go to work and come back home empty-handed?
