The Management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) will temporarily shut down the Barekese Water Treatment Plant from Monday, March 17 to Wednesday, March 19, 2025, for an improvement exercise.

The temporary shutdown will enable the GWCL to facilitate the installation of new interconnection pipelines and foot valves at a strategic location at the Suame Roundabout to boost water supply in the metropolis.

This information was contained in a statement issued and signed by the GWCL and copied to on Thursday, March 13, 2025. "The Management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Ashanti Region, hereby notifies the public of a scheduled shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant from Monday, 17th to Wednesday, 19th of March 2025. "This temporary shutdown is necessary to facilitate the installation of new interconnection pipelines and foot valves at a vantage point at the Suame Roundabout, which is expected to boost the water supply to the metropolis," the statement read.

The GWCL apologised to the affected areas for the inconvenience the exercise may cause and assured the public of their commitment to working diligently within the estimated timeframe to restore water supply to the affected communities.
