The Alliance of Drivers Ghana has announced a 20% increase in transport fares, effective Monday, March 17, 2025.
The increase is due to unbearable operational costs driven by rising fuel prices and expensive vehicle maintenance.
In a statement issued on Thursday, March 13, and signed by General Secretary George Baffour Owusu Afriyie, the association justified the fare adjustment by pointing to the recent surge in fuel prices, which have jumped from GHC12.99 to GHC16.23 per liter.
Additionally, the cost of spare parts, vehicle engines, and engine oil has skyrocketed, making it increasingly difficult for commercial drivers to stay afloat.
