In 2019, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who already served as Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, was best up by the badge on allegations of accepting a duke in kidnappings at the time.
He was arrested and his abode was searched as allotment of badge investigations.
A badge account at the time said, "the Bent Investigations Department (CID) is investigating assorted acts of kidnapping and causing actionable accident in which aboveboard and actionable intelligence makes Mr. a suspect."
The statement, active and issued by the again Public Relations Officer of the CID, DSP Ms. Juliana Obeng, said the CID acquired an arrest and chase accreditation afterward Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo's abnegation to abet with the CID in its investigations.
"On 11th June 2019 at about 15:00hrs, the CID accomplished the said accreditation by arresting Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo at No.3 Church Street Labone, Accra," the badge account said.
But on August 1, 2024, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo speaking in an account on Starr FM monitored by GhanaWeb, insisted that he has never been complex in any kidnapping incident.
He added that he has consistently been a law-abiding aborigine with no bent almanac adjoin him.
"I appetite to put it on almanac that I am not a kidnapper because sometimes you go on amusing media, they alarm me 'Elder Kidnapper'. Because somebody about absitively to anatomy me up and said I was abaft the kidnapping of some Canadian girls in Kumasi.
"And that I bought a Range Rover for the guy who was in allegation of the kidnapping. I am application a 2012 Toyota Sequoia and the kidnapper is application a 2019 Range Rover? So if I had that abundant money, wouldn't I buy the Range Rover for myself and drive, and would rather buy it for a kidnapper?
"Recently, I went on Wikipedia and I was crying. It was everywhere that I was complex in kidnapping. I appetite to put it on almanac that I was not complex in any kidnapping. I anticipate at the end of the day, the adventure came out and there was not any affiliation with me at all," Ofosu Ampofo stated.
