The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch), Kofi Asare, has criticised the government's allocation of GH¢203 million for teacher trainee allowances in the 2025 budget.

The government has allocated GH¢203 million for the Teacher Trainee Allowance in the 2025 Budget, reaffirming its commitment to supporting teacher education.

This funding aims to ease the financial burden on trainees, ensuring they complete their programs without undue hardship.

Speaking on the development in an interview on Citi FM's Eyewitness News on Tuesday, Kofi Asare described the expenditure as wasteful and urged the government to reconsider its approach. "I don't think that allocating over GHS200 million for teacher trainee allowance is a game changer. "It is actually a wasteful expenditure and we encourage the government to depart from that narrative," Asare stated.
