Correspondence from Ashanti Region Barima Fredua Agyeman Ababio II, the Kenyasihene in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has called on media practitioners in Ghana, particularly those in the Ashanti Region, to exercise circumspection in their reporting and prioritize accuracy.
He emphasized the crucial role of the media in national development and urged them to avoid sensationalism and the spread of misinformation.
Barima Fredua Agyeman Ababio II made the appeal while chairing the 'Thanksgiving & Get-together' ceremony of the Ashanti Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), held at the Longford Event Centre in Kwadaso, Kumasi.
He commended journalists in the Ashanti Region for their dedication to the progress of Asanteman and Ghana as a whole. "You (journalists) are our key partners in development, and no success can be achieved without your support," the Kenyasihene stated. "It is, therefore, very important that you do not allow people to use your platform to tarnish the reputation of others, especially politicians and traditional leaders (Nananom)." He stressed the importance of verifying information before publication, urging journalists to always cross-check their facts before going on air or publishing.
