The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the general public that a stolen Biometric Verification Device (BVD), cannot jeopardise the integrity of the 2024 Elections. The assurance follows the arrest on Friday of a man at Nsawam in the Eastern region found in possession of a BVD suspected to belong to the EC. The suspect, 52-year-old Samuel Yaw Koranteng who claims to reside at Tudu in Accra, was found in possession of the BVD with the serial number VVD49976, and was arrested by some residents of Nsawam who handed him over to the Police. Koranteng claims one Farouk Mahamah gave him the BVD. The EC in a statement issued on Sunday, August 25, said it takes the incident of an unauthorised person in possession of a BVD very seriously and that it has begun investigating the matter.
