A Private Members' Bill seeking to criminalise witchcraft and protect women accused of witchcraft has been reintroduced in the 9th Parliament by ten Members of Parliament.

Championing the bill, the Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, stated that if passed, the bill would protect and ensure the human rights of women, particularly the elderly and vulnerable, are safeguarded under the country's laws.

According to the lawmaker, the re-introduction of the bill aligns with the observance of International Women's Day on March 8, 2025.

He emphasised the significance of the theme, which calls for taking decisive actions to ensure and implement gender equality in the country. "Tomorrow, March 8, is International Women's Day.
