Ibrahim Musah, Head of Strategy, Policy, and Campaigns at WaterAid Ghana, has called on the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to take urgent action against illegal mining.

He emphasized that cracking down on the practice is essential in reducing its harmful effects on land, water bodies, and the environment.

Speaking in an interview with Mike FM during the presentation of research findings to key stakeholders on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, Musah described illegal miners as "mass murderers" due to the devastating environmental damage they cause. "Those involved in illegal mining are mass murderers, and the state should not hesitate to prosecute them.

Ghana Water is struggling in most of its treatment plants to supply clean water," he stated.
