Alhaji Ali Suraj, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Muslims across the country to make Ghana's democracy a topic of their Ramadan prayers.
In a social media post to mark Ghana's 68th Independence Day, the former organizer of the United States branch of the NPP touted Ghana's fledgling democracy as an example for countries on the continent.
He emphasized the need for the country to jealously guard against any conduct or action that would derail the country's progress.
As Muslims offer supplication to Allah in the special month of Ramadan, Alhaji Ali Suraj appealed to them to constantly pray to Allah to protect the country and render any activity that would mar the country's peace and stability fruitless. "Today, we remember and pay homage to the sacrifices of the leaders and warriors who fought for the independence of Ghana. "Since 1992, after the attainment of our independence, Ghana has enjoyed peaceful coexistence between its sectarian divides, which makes Ghana a peace-loving country admired by many countries across the world. "I want to take this opportunity to appeal to Ghanaians, especially my Muslim brothers, to pray for our country so that we can continue to preserve our democratic values as this year's Independence Day celebration falls in the holy month of Ramadan," he said.
