Ghanaians across the country will, today, March 6, 2025, hold celebratory activities to commemorate the nation's liberation from colonial rule nearly seven decades ago.

The anniversary marks 68 years since Ghana became the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence in 1957, a historic milestone that paved the way for other African nations to break free from colonial rule.

Led by Dr.

Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana successfully negotiated its independence from British colonial rule and officially declared its sovereignty on March 6, 1957.
