The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, has stated that the old headquarters of the central bank lacks the needed structural integrity for continued use.

He this necessitated the construction of a new facility.

Dr Asiama made this known when he appeared before Parliament on March 5 to answer questions regarding the decision to build a new headquarters for the Bank of Ghana.

Dr Asiama explained that discussions surrounding a new headquarters began as far back as 2011 when the board at the time considered acquiring land for the project.
