The First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, has rejected a private member's motion filed by the minority caucus regarding the termination of appointments of persons recruited into public service after December 7, 2024.
The motion, filed by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Okaikwei Central MP, Patrick Boamah and Old Tafo MP, Vincent Ekow Assafuah aimed to prompt Parliament to investigate the matter, citing inconsistencies with good governance practices and citizens' rights.
However, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga objected to the motion, pointing out that legal action had already been taken against the termination of appointments.
Ahiafor upheld the objection, ruling that debating the motion could lead to prejudicial comments. "There was a preliminary objection and the attention of the House has been drawn to a lawsuit pending before the Supreme Court as mentioned above.
