National Chairman of the (NDC), Johnson , has stated that Ghana's economy has been destroyed under the Akufo-Addo administration. According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) inherited a robust economy from the NDC, which included two oil fields and a strong manufacturing sector. He however accused the NPP of destroying these achievements and misleading the public about the state of the economy they inherited. Speaking at the launch of the NDC manifesto in Winneba on Saturday, August 24, 2024, he said, "the economy collapsed for the past seven years. The government has also introduced a plethora of taxes that are visiting excruciating hardships on our living conditions." He highlighted the economic hardships faced by Ghanaians, including the unprecedented sight of pensioners picketing at the Ministry of Finance.
