The private sector has urged the Mahama administration to revamp the Tema Shipyard to maximize its potential and contribute to economic growth.
This recommendation was made by David Ofosu-Dorte, Founder and Senior Partner of AB and David Africa, during a breakout session at the National Economic Dialogue on Tuesday, March 4.
The discussions centered on six key thematic areas aimed at addressing Ghana's economic challenges and promoting sustainable development.
Ofosu-Dorte highlighted the need for strategic partnerships to restore the shipyard's full operational capacity. "It is important to rejuvenate the Tema Shipyard, engage strategic partner or ensure that any strategic partner existing is made to revamp the Shipyard to bring it to the full function of all its functions which is supposed to play, which is ship building, ship repairs, and particularly because of the 24-hour economy- fabrication. ..It's a major component of fabrication industry which we think is being under-utilised." Stakeholders at the dialogue believe revitalizing the Tema Shipyard will boost industrialization, create jobs, and enhance Ghana's position in the maritime and shipping industry. 2025 Heritage 'Caravanites' visit iconic Paga Crocodile Pond
