The Minority caucus in parliament has fired back at President John Mahama, dismissing his claims that Ghana's economy is in distress as a result of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration's mismanagement.
Speaking in parliament on the 'True State of the Economy', former finance minster, Dr.
Mohammed Amin Adam argued that the NDC government is misrepresenting facts to undermine the previous government's economic achievements. "On the financial sector, the president again played to the gallery by stating that 'the financial sector continues to struggle despite the previous government reportedly spending GH₵29.9 billion on the financial sector cleanup exercise to date.' Typical of the NDC's usual sweeping statements, this conclusion was made without providing any basis," Adam stated.
He defended the controversial financial sector cleanup exercise, explaining that while the reforms caused short-term disruptions, they were necessary to prevent a total collapse of the banking industry.
