President John Dramani Mahama says there will be an extra day of holiday for the Muslim celebration of Eid ul-Fitr.
This is in honour of his promises made during his election campaign and to acknowledge the contributions of the Muslim community to national development.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the new Hajj Village on Friday, February 28, President Mahama said that he had instructed the legal counsel at the presidency, Madam Marietta Brew, to amend the Public Holidays Act accordingly. "I'm also happy to announce that I've instructed the legal counsel at the presidency, madam Marietta Brew, to amend the public holidays act to provide an extra holiday for the Muslim celebration of Eid ul-Fitr. "Therefore, beginning this year, there will be two days of holiday at the end of the holy month of Ramadan," President Mahama stated.
