President Mahama has disclosed that a planning committee for the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving will soon be set up after consultations with the Minister for Local Government and Religious Affairs. "I shall soon initiate consultations through the Minister for Local Government and Religious Affairs to set up a planning committee for the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving," the President said during his speech at a Fellowship with the Clergy on Friday, February 28, 2025 at the AICC.
The President on February 5, 2025 declared July 1 as a day to be observed as a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.
Addressing chiefs, residents and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region, President Mahama said "July 1 will be observed as a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, allowing Ghanaians to reflect and express appreciation for the nation's progress." He explained that "We will have the opportunity as a nation soon to pray and give thanks to the Almighty God, as enjoined by the Holy Book that says, 'In all things, give thanks." In his address on Friday, President Mahama also said government is in consultation with the Speaker of Parliament for the anti-LGBT bill to be introduced in Parliament as Government-sponsored bill rather than a bill sponsored by private members.
President Mahama re-affirmed his Christian values, stating that only two genders exist - a man and woman. "I as a Christian, uphold the values that only two genders exist as man and woman and that the marriage is between a man and woman.
