President John Mahama has stated that his administration will legalise the use of motorcycles for commercial transportation.

Popularly known as 'Okada', the practice is currently prohibited in the country.

However, President Mahama believes legalising 'Okada' will help in his administration's quest to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth. "Currently, the Road Traffic Regulations of 2012 (L.I. 2180) prohibit licensing motorcycles and tricycles for fare-paying passengers.

As part of our Government Policy, the Ministry will amend the regulatory framework to regularise their use for commercial passenger transport," he announced when delivering the State of the Nation Address to Parliament on February 27.
