President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to develop the Osu Castle and the surroundings into a popular tourist destination.
During his 2025 State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Thursday, the President revealed plans to transform the former seat of government "and the area surrounding it as a tourist attraction, a pedestrian precinct, with arts and craft markets, and a jewellery and gold market." President Mahama emphasized the importance of tourism, culture, and the creative arts in Ghana's national development strategy, highlighting their role in job creation, cultural exchange, and economic growth.
President Mahama reiterated his administration's commitment to leverage these creative arts sector to boost the economy.
The President also outlined several key initiatives, including the flagship programme The Black Star Experience, which aims to position Ghana as the gateway to Africa for the global diaspora.
