The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has told President John Dramani Mahama that at the time that he is complaining rising youth unemployment, his administration, in less than one hundred days, has sacked a lot of youth who were employed by the previous administration.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament after President Mahama's State of the Nation Address, he said "he is telling us today that we have 2.2million youths unemployed but what he has forgotten is that in his administration, in less than 100 days all we know is sack them, and dismissals, On the streets of Accra today, the youth of the country are saying Maham baako termination bebreebeee [To wit: With Just Mahama, we have a lot of termination of appointments]." During the SONA, President John Dramani Mahama said that youth unemployment is the biggest challenge facing Ghana.

He notes that youth unemployment threatens national security.

To that end, he said, he has set up the Ministry of Youth Development to address the concerns of youth unemployment.
